mile 15

At TurnKey Labs, we believe in the art (and value!) of merging work and fun.

Last week in Palo Alto we hosted the second edition of our high-energy pickleball tournament aptly titled “Battle of the Cap Table”  because it brings together Investors (VCs and Private Equity) and Startup leaders (Founders and Execs) for a rip-roaring good time. With a robust crowd of about 50 vibrant players, there was some seriously good pickleball and some seriously good times. Note: the DJ spinning 80’s hits helped a ton too 🙂.

Now, you might be scratching your head, wondering how a sport like pickleball intersects with the world of offshore software development. It’s a fair question. While I’d love to draw a neat line connecting an unforgettable pickleball tournament with TurnKey’s knack for recruiting and retaining superior offshore development talent, it’s not a one-to-one relationship.

Yet, this seemingly whimsical choice of an event is a cornerstone of how we do business. We focus most of our energy on why we do things more so than how we do them.  And it’s encapsulated in one simple, yet potent value: relationships.

We see our clients, partners and employees beyond their professional roles. We recognize and celebrate them as multifaceted folks with diverse interests. Sharing time together while having a little fun builds deeper relationships.  And deeper relationships build trust and collaboration, which ultimately propels productivity into the stratosphere.

So as it relates to culture, for us it’s all about creating opportunities to develop strong relationships through meaningful (and fun!) experiences.  And pickleball –or really pickleball and cocktails! – is one such event.

Ok, now I’m off to sing A Spoonful of Sugar with my daughter to do some more relationship-building rooted in fun…
